The Rebellion that secured victory in the previous installment is forced to retreat from the snow planet Hos due to the Empire's ambush. Luke leaves the battlefield to undergo training as a Jedi Knight on the planet Dagobah. Meanwhile, Han Solo and Leia escape to the cloud planet Bespin, but a trap set by Darth Vader awaits them. As it is the middle part of the saga's second installment (Episode V), the structure inevitably leads to an incomplete fate as a standalone work, which is unfortunate. Nevertheless, the successive action scenes and special effects are impressive. Particularly, Yoda's debut as a Jedi Master is astonishing, and this also influenced later SF fantasy works.
